Sister Ellen P. Barney

Ellen Barney is a native of Howard County, Maryland. Ellen began her walk with the Lord Jesus Christ 43 years ago when her husband, Pastor Kenneth L. Barney, Sr., led her to salvation. A gifted teacher, administrator, and speaker, she has a burden for the women of God as well as to encourage those persons who are hurting. Ellen was instrumental in designing and teaching several women’s classes at New Antioch Baptist Church of Randallstown (NABCOR). These classes include Women’s Discipleship, three levels of Lay Encouragers and Disciplers (LEAD) classes, and the level-four class, Know Thyself. Know Thyself is designed to help women learn and understand how prolonged dysfunctional emotions impede relationships and spiritual maturity. After that, she taught a class entitled, Drawing Nigh…Becoming Intimate with Christ. Also, Ellen has served as the Director of Women’s Ministries at New Antioch Baptist Church of Randallstown for over 26 years, guiding the spiritual growth and Christian education of hundreds of women. In this role, she oversees the planning of the Women’s Executive Board, Women’s Retreats, Fellowships and Conferences, Women’s Bible Classes, and over 17 women’s ministries within NABCOR. She too does professional biblical and pastoral counseling.

Ellen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Science with a concentration in Biological Science from Towson University. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Christian Counseling and Discipleship from Capital Bible Seminary in Lanham, Maryland, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She also holds a Master of Science Degree in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition, Ellen is a recipient of an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Divinity from the Lancaster Bible College—Capital Bible Seminary & Graduate School. She is a licensed clinical professional counselor, a National Certified Counselor by the National Board of Certified Counselors, as well as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She also served as an Adjunct Professor at Capital Bible Seminary where she taught courses in Counseling and Mentoring Women. She has been featured in “Who’s Who of American Colleges.” She has written her first book, Know Thyself to Carry Another on Wings of Compassion: The Key to Learning How Dysfunctional Emotions Impede Relationships and Spiritual Maturity.

Before devoting her career to full time ministry, Ellen was employed by the Prince George’s County Environmental Health Department for several years. She is presently a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors of Maryland (LCPCM), and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS).

Ellen enjoys spending time with her three children, Curtis, Teresa, and Kenneth, Jr., as well as spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoys reading and researching. She is also enthusiastic about home and architectural design. Her passion, however, is to equip women for God’s glory!
